BIC codes are commonly used category classification standards used within publishing. Frankfurt Rights supports this code format and it can be input into the Bulk Upload spreadsheet with ease. Frankfurt Rights does not support BISAC codes.
The BIC classification tool was developed by Book Industry Communication. An introduction to BIC codes is available here, and more detailed information can be found here.
BIC has a handy tool to help you find the relevant categories here.
For example if you are posting a political thriller, you can post this under F (for Fiction), FH (for Fiction Thriller), and also FHP (for Political/Legal thriller). Each heading has a subheading for granularity.
Using BIC codes in the Bulk Upload Spreadsheet
You can use the classification code and the titles will map to the platform. You can type BIC codes into Column F of the spreadsheet.
You can set multiple categories against your titles as long as they are separated with commas. This will provide better discoverability for your titles on the platform.
Using the example above, list the categories in the following format to map to all 3 categories:
F, FH, FHP
Note: Frankfurt Rights is currently not using Thema code classification. If you would prefer to use Thema, please let your Account Manager know.
